FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the treatment involve?

Botox: Very small amounts of Botulinum Toxin are injected into the target areas using an ultra fine needle. This blocks the impulse from the nerve to the facial muscles, reducing the contractions that cause wrinkles. Following the treatment the skin over the muscles looks smooth and even.

Dermal Fillers: Small amounts of dermal filler are injected directly into the skin using an ultra fine needle. The gel helps to plump up the skin, thereby smoothing out lines and wrinkles. If the lips or facial contours are being treated, the filler adds volume, restores shape and gives a fuller appearance. Our policy is ‘less is more’ so we will always aim to give you a natural, subtle look.

Does the injection hurt?

Botox: The needle used is very fine and only a tiny amount of substance is used so there is minimal discomfort. No sedation or local anaesthesia is required, but topical anaesthetic is available.

Dermal Fillers: Most dermal fillers include an added anaesthetic, which makes the treatment virtually painless, however there can be minor discomfort especially in the lip area.

How long does the treatment take?

Botox: Approximately fifteen minutes. You can then get straight back to work!

Dermal Fillers: The length of the treatment will depend on the areas being filled, but generally the procedure takes about 30 minutes.

How soon will I see the results?

Botox: You’ll start noticing improvements in two to three days. The overall effects will be visible in about a week.

Dermal Fillers: Dermal fillers work instantly so you’ll see the results straight away.

How long will the results last?

Botox: The effects can last from three up to six months, at which point you can book a top up treatment. Clinical studies indicate that this treatment has a cumulative effect, so you should need fewer injections as time goes on.

Dermal Fillers: The effects will fade gradually but should last between 4 and 12 months depending on the treatment, at which point you can come back to us for a top up treatment. If you decide not to continue with the injections the gel will biodegrade in the skin and simply disappear.

Are there any side effects?

Botox: Only tiny amounts of Botulinum Toxin are used, so this treatment is not harmful. The most common side effects are temporary and localised bruising, slight redness of the skin and occasionally slight swelling at the injection site.

Dermal Fillers: There will be some redness, tenderness and swelling around the treated area immediately after the injection, especially in the lip area. You might also feel an itching sensation. All side effects should subside after a couple of hours.
